On-site Visit to Durham Distillery

14 June 2023, 09:00 - 11:30

Durham Distillery, 30 - 31 High Street, Prince Bishops Place, Durham City, DH1 3UL

Due to complete this autumn, Durham Distillery’s multi-million-pound move to Prince Bishops shopping centre will introduce a distillery experience like no other, complete with a craft distillery for gin and whisky, an underground visitor centre and a visitor centre – and here’s your chance to see it first.

The brainchild of Jon Chadwick, founder of Durham Distillery and a former Teesside NHS chief executive, the building has been five years in the making and stretches across the city, from Durham High Street to the banks of the river.

Inspired by a trip to America, where he stumbled across micro-distilleries making Bourbon in college towns along the East Coast, Jon set up Durham Distillery in 2014, where he combined a mix of traditional and modern techniques and local ingredients (such as elderflower, angelica and celery) to launch its signature Durham Gin.

Proudly distilling in a historic university city, using authentic distilling methods, Jon has built a business which honours Durham’s culture and heritage to its fullest; from its logo, a modern representation of the Rose Window of Durham Cathedral, to the local spring water used within its distilling.

Accompanied on the tour by Jon, at this on-site visit you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the brand new Durham Distillery and be one of the first to visit the new multi-million-pound venue. You’ll tour the distilling rooms, engage in a tasting session and create your own cocktails too, all while learning of Durham Distillery’s inspired past and exciting future from its founder Jon Chadwick.
