Focus Dinner with Roger Peart, The Peart Group

13 October 2022, 17:30 - 21:00

The Coach House, Middleton Lodge, Richmond, DL10 6NJ

Roger Peart is the Managing Director of The Peart Group and ex-owner of third generation F. Peart & Co., which the Peart family established in 1923 and Roger helped grow to a £100mil turnover business before subsequently selling.

Born and raised in the North East, where he still lives today, Roger graduated from Manchester University with a degree in Classics before heading to the bright lights of London for a career in shipping.

He started in the bunker department of Gibsons, one of the largest shipbrokers in London before moving to the office of Fal Energy, the then largest supplier of bunkers in the Persian Gulf.

After four years, Roger had a choice to make – move to Dubai to Fal’s HQ or go back “up north” to take the reins of the family business as his father was looking to retire.

Having the chance to work alongside his Dad meant it was actually an easy decision to make and in late 1998 Roger moved back home where he began working with his cousin and business partner, Freddie. Joining the family firm quickly demonstrated what little Roger knew about business “at the coal face”, so he embarked on a mission to improve his knowledge, completing a Diploma in Dynamic Financial Management at Durham University.

Roger and Freddie continued to grow F. Peart & Co until they were approached by Republic of Ireland based conglomerate, DCC Plc. With head conquering the war over heart the company was sold in 2010. Roger, only 38 years old at the time, promised his father it was evolution not revolution.

Continuing to use their knowledge and experience to drive new enterprises, Roger and Freddie founded The Peart Group - a portfolio of autonomous entities in a wide range of sectors including distribution, manufacturing and education (Baltic Apprenticeships is one of the leading IT Training providers in the UK) but oil still runs through the family veins. The creation of Your NRG and Propeller Fuels means that Roger has come back full circle to bunkers, the place where his career first began.

Peart Group trades both nationally and internationally, has a turnover of around half a billion and employs some 500 people from their North East Base. The right people are key to its continued growth, with multiple Shareholders and Directors: evolution!

Roger firmly believes in two things, that businesses now need a purpose and a vision, not just a product/service and that education, training and continual personal improvement is imperative – having just completed a Strategy in Action course with the London Stock Exchange. Roger only wishes he’d listened more at school, and was delighted recently when an old friend noted he might not be as much of a nitwit as he first appears.

Join us for this intimate member only dinner where Roger will share the challenge of understanding and growing a variety of businesses in different sectors all whilst developing his own self-belief, leadership style and overcoming a sense of imposter syndrome.
