Founder member of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, former chairman of One NorthEast, Business Link, RTC North, NewcastleGateshead Initiative and the University of Sunderland, Paul Callaghan has combined a lifetime of success in business with a long list of ‘public’ roles.

An author and academic, he co-founded DomainNames.com in 1997 and helped it to grow into one of Europe’s largest domain name registrars before selling it to VeriSign.

Awarded EY’s Northern E-business Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000 and 2005, Paul went on to develop The Leighton Group, including 4Projects, which was sold to its management team in 2007, Communicator Corporation, which was sold to Trinity Mirror in 2011, and SaleCycle.

In 2012, Paul was awarded a CBE for services to the North East and was the recipient of the first ever ‘Outstanding Contribution to the City’ Award by Sunderland City Council. In 2018 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the North East Entrepreneurial Awards and was installed as High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear.
