Construction team targets more growth with new addition

The specialist Construction and Engineering team at law firm Ward Hadaway is looking to capitalise on a growing revival in the sector with its second new appointment this autumn.

Alan Ross joins the expanding team as an Associate after more than nine years specialising in construction law and advising on key projects for private and public sector organisations and across the country.

In the private sector, he has advised McAleer & Rushe Group on over £350m worth of hotel and mixed use developments throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland, as well as advising the company on sports projects such as the redevelopment of London Irish RFC’s training facilities and the redevelopment of Hampshire County Cricket Club’s Rose Bowl Stadium. Alan is continuing to advise McAleer & Rushe Group following his move.

Eamon Higgins, FinanceDirector – Construction, at McAleer & Rushe, said: "We're delighted to continue our working relationship with Alan. Over the years Alan has become a trusted and invaluable legal advisor, with a keen grasp of the commercial realities we, as main D&B contractors, must work with."

Alan has also advised on a number of private sector regeneration, commercial, pharmaceutical, housing and student accommodation developments throughout the UK.

His experience in the energy sector will also complement Ward Hadaway's existing strong specialist Energy Team.

Alan has provided legal advice on a number of major engineering schemes in the energy and offshore sectors including a £250m North Sea satellite oil platform project, a €50m subsea electricity cabling scheme, a multi-million pound J-Lay pipelay tower manufacturing project and the development of an anaerobic digestion plant.

In the public sector, Alan has advised on a number of projects in the education sector including the redevelopment of a London university's campus and a new city centre sports facility for a North East university.

Alan has been praised by independent legal guides as being "courteous and prompt" and an "Associate to watch" whilst providing "excellent technical advice".

He joins Ward Hadaway after the recruitment of experienced Construction Partner Tim Craig in September as the law firm continues to invest in building up its specialist team in the sector in the wake of growing demand for its services from a range of construction and engineering clients.

Alan Ross said: "I am delighted to be joining Ward Hadaway at what is an exciting time for the firm and for the construction, engineering and related sectors.

"Ward Hadaway is already well known for the quality of its work in the industry, but there is a clear commitment from the firm to invest further in the team and to take advantage of the growing number of opportunities in the sector.

"I know Tim and other members of the team by reputation and experience so I am really looking forward to combining our skills to offer clients a truly comprehensive service across a wide range of different areas, from our Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester offices."

Ralph Wrighton, Partner and Head of Construction at Ward Hadaway, said: "Alan brings with him a potent combination of experience and enthusiasm. He is well known within the industry for his willingness to get the job done and go the extra mile for his clients so he will fit in very well with the rest of the team.

"His recruitment, alongside that of Tim Craig, is a real demonstration of our determination to expand our reach and services still further, adding considerable projects experience to the team.

"This is especially important as more construction projects get off the ground as the property sector continues to revive. Having Tim and Alan on the team means we can provide the very best service to clients in the construction and property industries."
