Given the choice of being a supermarket manager or working in his family’s retail business Mike Bowers chose neither and opted instead to start his own business.

Having gained experience installing car phones, he opened one of the first shops in Sunderland selling mobile phones to consumers.

When the sector took off, Mike found a niche supplying mobiles to businesses backed up with a uniquely high level of bespoke support.

In 1995 he started with two staff. After re-mortgaging his house to grow the business, Cellular Solutions now employs 26 and has 900 clients from sole traders to the likes of Newcastle International Airport and Thompsons of Prudhoe; now offering complete communications solutions and advice.

It is one of only 12 companies in the UK to be recognised as an 02 Centre of Excellence.

“We’ve always invested in the latest technology, but only if it adds real value. We apply the same ethos in the way we treat our customers, advising and supporting them, in having only the most effective and efficient communications for their businesses,” says Mike.

Cellular Solutions is also well known for its support of worthy causes and local sporting clubs and events. Its annual charity golf day sees clients competing and raising money for these charities.
